For Wayne and Jo Lockie, Bathurst is more than home – it’s where their story, and the story of Tablelands Builders, is deeply rooted.
Wayne’s journey began when his parents moved the family to Bathurst in 1979, seeking to build a better lifestyle and future. Educated at The Scots School, Wayne grew up valuing leadership, integrity, perseverance, and respect — qualities that became the foundation of his life and work. From his uncle, a hardworking farmer from Gumble near Manildra, he learned persistence, humility, and the satisfaction of a job done properly.
As an adult, mentors like Geoff Porter of Hobson Constructions and Porter Constructions reinforced the importance of quality craftsmanship and hard work, while Robert Barlow’s dedication to community and charity showed Wayne the power of service beyond the workplace. These lessons, along with Bathurst’s strong sense of connection and authenticity, are why Wayne chose to stay. For him, Bathurst isn’t just where he lives — it’s where his roots are, and where he’s committed to building opportunity for future generations.
Jo’s story began in Orange, NSW, where she was raised in a family full of grit, laughter, and relentless determination. Surrounded by small business owners, she learned that success is measured not only in profit, but in trust, care, and contribution to others. Watching her parents and grandparents pour everything into their work taught her the values of loyalty, attention to detail, and building something that lasts. Those lessons became the foundation for her own vision — to lead with purpose and to create something meaningful for the community.
Apprenticeships, Hard Work, and a Shared Dream
Wayne’s career began with an apprenticeship at Hobson Constructions in 1994. Those early years on the tools were formative — long hours, hard graft, and the reward of seeing timber, steel, and effort come together to form something lasting. He later worked in maintenance at The Scots School Bathurst before joining Tablelands Builders for the first time. Each step refined his skills, deepened his perspective, and strengthened his belief in quality, relationships, and perseverance.
Jo built her own businesses from the ground up, running successful beauty salons before moving into community services, where she led teams supporting mental health. Her ability to organise, nurture, and lead became second nature — strengths she later brought into Tablelands Builders, guiding operations and growth.
When Wayne and Jo combined their talents — his technical mastery and her strategic leadership — they transformed Tablelands Builders into more than a construction company. Together, they built a family-driven business dedicated to people, place, and purpose.
Family at the Heart
Between them, Wayne and Jo are parents to a blended family of nine. Family isn’t just their anchor — it’s their motivation. They know firsthand the importance of a home, not just as bricks and mortar, but as a place where memories are made and futures take shape. That belief is reflected in every project they undertake — from the way they communicate with clients to the care they show apprentices learning their trade.
A 70-Year Legacy
Tablelands Builders has been part of Bathurst’s story for over 70 years. Under Wayne and Jo’s leadership, that legacy has not only been preserved but renewed.
